Dear Kolping Friends:

It is with concern that we write to you about our friend and Kolping Society member Louisa Bergey, and we hope that you will be able to help her.

In the middle of May 2011, Louisa suffered a fall at the front steps to the entrance of her home.  She was alone and unconscious when two strangers found her and ultimately got help for her. She was taken to the hospital where it was discovered that her skull had been fractured and her brain had swelled.

As of this writing, June 27, 2011, Louisa is now in a rehabilitation facility unable to talk or care for herself. However, Louisa’s prognosis is not without optimism, and doctors believe that she is on the road to a significant recovery but rehabilitation will be long and extremely expensive.

Louisa is a great friend; a loving mom to Lou Ann; the proud owner of Kimmy, her miniature pinscher; a life member of the Cannstatter Volksfest Verein and an occasional karaoke singer. She is also a long-time proud employee of Dietz and Watson. She is a warm and compassionate person always willing to lend a hand, and we hope that you can help her in her time of need.

At this time we ask that you not only keep Louisa in your thoughts and prayers but also make plans to attend a Beef and Beer fundraiser for her on August 20, 2011 from 7 to 11 PM at the Cannstatter Volksfest Verein, 9130 Academy Road, Philadelphia, PA 19114. If you are unable to attend please consider making a donation to the Kolping Society for a fund that we have established for the many bills associated with her care and recovery.

In addition if you or someone you know is in a position to make a donation of an item for raffle auction baskets at the Beef and Beer, those donations will be welcomed.
