November/December 2011
President’s
Message
Wie geht’s,
I know it’s hard to believe, but Christmas will be coming soon and another year
is winding down. Hope everyone is getting ready for the Holidays, as well as the
colder weather on its way.
Since the last newsletter, the German American community held their annual
Steuben Day Parade in September. In addition to our Korn Flower (blume) Queen,
Erika Shustak, we also had a Girl Scout troop from Saint Catherine’s march with
us. I hope that next year we can have more of our members participate in
marching in the parade.
On Sept 25th, we tried something a little different and did a Day at the Races.
There was a lot of good, positive feedback on this event, so this may be
something we try again in the spring. Thanks to the Leifholtzes for the
suggestion as well as making the arrangements!!
Our Oktoberfest weekend down the shore was a great time for all who came down to
Wildwood for the weekend. There was tons of food and drink and the weather was
absolutely phenomenal!! If you haven’t had the opportunity to make this weekend,
be sure to mark the date for next year, which will be Oct 19th thru 21st, as we
have already booked the same place for next October.
Coming up on Saturday, December 10th will be Kolping’s Christmas party, this
year held in the Cannstatter’s small dining room. As a thank you for all that
our members do during the year, (in addition to the fact that we’ve done well
financially this year since we’ve been able to cut down on monthly expenses with
the move to Cannstatter’s,) this year’s party will be paid for by the club. In
order to ensure we can provide an accurate headcount to Roman, we would ask that
those who wish to attend write a check to Kolping for the price of the party.
The check would then be returned to you un-cashed when you show up the night of
the party.
As most of you probably are already aware, the Kolping lost one of its member’s
in late September, Charlie Morris. Most of our members would remember Charlie as
the chef for our Kolping Communion Breakfasts. As a past Kolping President,
Charlie’s creative and innovative ideas helped move the club into the 21st
century.
Our most heartfelt condolences go out to Charlie’s wife, Diane, their sons and
Charlie’s father-in-law, Earl Asimos.
God Bless, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all.
